Jehovah Nissi

Jehovah Nissi:

“The Lord is my banner” or “The Lord is my victory” (Representation of God’s protection)

Oftentimes we mistake the protection of God for an attack from the enemy. This is going to be a quick one for you all…

I had a dream about 2-3 years ago. I won’t share the entire thing, but just the parts that are relevant to this message.

In the dream I was in a pool of which consisted of someone like a sister to me (my ex-best friend), and two old romantic interests (3 former friends who were present friends at the time of this dream). The pool had become overwhelming, I was being swarmed by what looked like random men who were also in the pool with us, then out of nowhere an unusually large tiger showed up in the middle  of the pool. Instantly, the pool was cleared of the 3 former friends and all of the men who overwhelmed me.

The thing is, I also cleared the pool, and ran out of fear of what might come of me if I stayed. The tiger didn’t attack or chase anyone, he just lurked around the pool as if he just wanted everyone out. I ran to a woman’s home where she stayed with her children, and I remember I was panicking, and her little girl looked out the window, and referring to the tiger said, “It’s beautiful”. That’s when I realized the tiger wasn’t there to harm me, it was there to protect me from what I couldn’t perceive at the time in the relationships I kept.

What I learned looking back on this dream and where I used to be in my relationship with Christ is that due to my limited understanding of Who God was, I couldn’t quite recognize that what He was allowing to transpire in my life wasn’t an attack from the enemy, but was instead the manifestation of His divine protection.

There’s a huge difference between knowing of God, and actually knowing Him for yourself. In knowing Him for myself today, I can honestly say that in the majority of what seemed like unfortunate situations I’m able to see God’s goodness, and His movement in the midst. Knowing Him, and having a better understanding of His ways, is a perspective shifter. You begin to face challenges differently because you know that the God you serve has His hands on you and every area of your life, therefore, no matter the circumstance (fortunate or unfortunate), it’s all a part of God’s plan for your life. This is what a relationship with God gives you, peace in the midst of storms; claim it.

A deeper look at the dream:

  • The pool symbolizes cleansing

    • If they did not belong to me in that season of my life, or the season to come, they had to go

    • Scripture reference: “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful” (John 15:2)
