Desire

The Bible tells us that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will fulfill our heart's desires (See Psalm 37:4). The incredible part is that as we draw closer to God and become more like Christ, our desires begin to align with His desires for us. Therefore, the yearnings of our hearts that God promises to fulfill actually reflect His own desires for our lives.

Reflecting on my journey, I've realized that the desires I had before surrendering to Christ are not that dissimilar from those I have now. The difference lies in my deeper understanding of why God instilled those desires in me, along with the importance of giving Him all the glory when everything unfolds.

I've come to value the time spent in the seemingly endless in-between—where I'm neither where I once was nor where I ultimately wish to be. I believe that, in one way or another, we will always be in a state of waiting on the Lord. Rather than seeing waiting as merely a hurdle to overcome, we should view it as an essential part of our ongoing journey with Christ and a crucial aspect of our personal growth.

If you find yourself in a season of waiting after bringing something before God, embrace it. In a world that craves instant gratification, remember that the best things often take time. God has wonderful plans for those who love Him, and when He calls you to wait, it’s because He has something exceptional in store just for you.

So, the real question is: Are you ready to receive His very best?

Waiting isn't my favorite thing, but I can’t deny the benefits that come from it. While waiting can sometimes make me anxious, I’m always met with relief once I recognize the newest thing God has created within me, or has allowed me to release amid the process. This realization reveals the purpose behind the process and highlights God’s intentionality regarding my development as a woman of God.

If things don’t quite make sense today, trust that they will in time. God will not withhold any good thing from His children, His heirs (See Psalm 84:11). Don’t let yourself believe that you’ve been forgotten—because you haven’t. The wait is a testament to the lengths God is willing to go to ensure your joy is complete.

Since the desires of your heart align with God’s desires for you—due to your relationship with Him—the moment the desire arose within you, it became a promise to you. And we serve a God who keeps His promises.

Scripture to reflect on:

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 84:11

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
