Embodied

This challenged my initial understanding of “calling”:

A calling is not primarily what you do; it’s what God forms you into, so that what you do represents Him accurately.

This is why you cannot step into an assignment before becoming the kind of person able to steward it well; the kind of person with the capacity to carry its weight.

A calling is not merely a task to perform; it is a function you must be shaped, formed, and transformed into.

You don’t simply do a thing.

You embody it.

So the question becomes:

Can there really be calling without process?

I’ve come to understand that the first call is always to obedience; obedience that positions us for process, and process that eventually leads to commissioning.

Though we often use different language: calling, assignment, purpose. Scripture reveals a consistent order.

God does not reveal callings so we can force outcomes, but so we may yield to the work of becoming, and in due season, walk naturally into the function He has prepared for us.
