A Generous Giver
What you give to those in need, God considers as a gift to Him.
The Holy Spirit dropped this question in my spirit a few nights ago, “What did you give me?”. Immediately what came to mind was meeting the needs of those who could not help themselves.
As I write I begin to understand that “meeting the needs” of those in need go beyond what we can physically give others, and to what we can spiritually add to others. We do not have the power to save souls, but we have been gifted to lead lost souls to Christ. I’ve found that it is less about what we say to each other, and more about how we treat one another. The answer is love. People respond best to the actions of a saint who practice what they preach. It’s our job to walk in love always.
It is through our portrayal of true love that we can draw the loss, and in turn lead them to Christ to be found. Speak the truth of the gospel and rather or not another receives what you’ve spoken, treat them with love, by showing them the same grace God shows you daily. Plant the seed that was once before planted in you, and trust God to do the watering. Lastly, do not neglect prayer. Come into agreement with God’s will for the life of an individual who is not yet a believer by praying for them. Pray for their ability to receive the truth about the Gospel.
Side note: I heard this the other day, “It’s not about how well we achieve, instead it is about how well we receive”…so I believe that our prayers for unbelievers should be geared more towards their ability to receive the truth about the Gospel, and less about their “unholy” actions. As many of us know, it is because of what (The truth about the Gospel) we’ve received and how we received it, that we’re able to walk in freedom today. Let the Holy Spirit do His thing on the inside of people, and as they receive well, slowly but surely they will become a new creation in Christ Jesus.
The question, “What did you give me?”, will forever stick with me. We’re called to be cheerful and generous givers. Physically and spiritually I believe we as Followers of Christ have so much to offer those in need because of how much God has given us.
Today, think of how you can sow generously in another’s life, physically, spiritually, or maybe even both.
God bless y’all! I pray God increases your awareness of opportunities for you to be a blessing to others in the same way you have been blessed.
Scripture to reflect on:
Deuteronomy 15:10
"Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to"
Proverbs 22:9
"The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor"
Matthew 25:40
“‘The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. '”
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver"
