Healing Out Loud
Healing sometimes looks like flashbacks, nightmares, overthinking, and self-protection. Healing doesn’t mean every trigger magically disappears, especially not overnight. It means your responses to these harder moments begin to change. Instead of letting them send you into a hole, you challenge yourself. You lean into trusting God over what your usual trauma response would be, such as disappearing for instance (my go-to).
It gets messy. It gets exhausting. But as a woman who has not only been there, but is still there, I say this: be patient and gentle with yourself.
Some days you may feel like you’re on top of the world. Other days, you may feel like you carry a bag of bricks everywhere you go.
The key is to keep going. To keep waking up. To keep trying, until that bag of bricks begins to feel lighter, and eventually, nonexistent.
Many who haven’t been there will not understand where you are. But that does not make your battle any less real.
You are not dealing with a wound that can be patched up for a few weeks and scab over. You are dealing with deep psychological wounds that require a surgical healing process that mirrors the depth of the injury.
So give yourself grace, even when the world around you refuses to do the same.
And most importantly, get lost in your relationship with Christ. In Him is where you will find wholeness. That is the priority.
