Come Home
You know, no one’s perfect. We’ve all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but I have good news for you: none of that changes how deeply God loves you, nor does it take away your worthiness to receive salvation. The truth is, none of us would be worthy of anything without the grace and mercy of God—but it is through His grace that we are made worthy.
God already declared you, and every human being on this earth, worthy of salvation when He allowed the sacrifice of His only begotten Son. So who are we to tell God anything different by the way we live or what we believe about ourselves?
Tonight God gave me an interesting vision. I heard a question rise in my spirit: “Why choose to live contrary to the Word of God when fully aware of what life after death would warrant?” And the answer came shortly afterward: “Some feel as if hell is the only thing they deserve. They don’t feel salvation belongs to them.”
I’ve spoken of this before—conviction versus condemnation—and we must recognize the difference. Condemnation causes many to hide from the Lord. It convinces them they are shameful, unforgivable, and unworthy. But that is a lie straight from the pits of hell. Whenever your actions are followed by condemnation, know that it is not from God, for He does not condemn those He loves—and He loves us all. What He allows us to experience is conviction.
I like to think of conviction as something the Holy Spirit plants within us, leading to correction out of love. Conviction allows you to see the error of your ways and gently encourages you to make changes for the better.
So if you feel unworthy of salvation, understand that you are experiencing condemnation—not conviction. Reject those feelings today and take hold of the promise of salvation. Repent and turn away. You believe, yet you feel so far from what could be—but God already knew you would be exactly where you are right now, and He is waiting for you to come home.
Before you were ever thought of—before you were ever formed and wiggling in your mother’s womb—God found you worthy of salvation. Jesus laid down His life for you. He sent the Holy Spirit to you—to guide, strengthen, comfort, and lead you back to Him.
Lean into that today. Don’t reject what has been freely given for your sake. Know that you are loved beyond your understanding. Come home.
Scripture to reflect on:
Luke 15:31 & 32
The Parable of the Lost son (Read Luke 15:11-32 for the full parable)
31) “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32) But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
John 3:17
17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him
Romans 3:21-26
Righteousness Through Faith
21) But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22) This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24) and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25) God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26) he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Romans 8:1 & 2
Life Through the Spirit
1) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2) because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
